Documentation

SharePoint metadata is implemented through columns created in lists or libraries, allowing content to be consistently tagged and classified. These metadata columns can be defined at the library level, the site level, or using managed metadata sourced from the Term Store.

Document Library/Content Type

A content type in SharePoint is a reusable collection of templates, metadata (columns), workflows, behavior, and other settings for a category of items or documents. SharePoint includes many built-in content types by default. You can use the pre-defined content types, such as Blank Document or Announcement, without any change, or you can create custom content types to meet your organization's unique requirements.
